Gum Damar

Gum Damar is a natural resin obtained from Dipterocarpaceae family of trees, mainly those of Shorea and Hopea genus. This tree family is found predominantly in West Sumatra, Indonesia. The quality is graded and determined mainly by the lump's size, the purity degree and the color. Dark brown to clear and pale yellow is how the color varies.


Usage :

Typically mixed with lacquers to produce gloss and provide adhesive properties, gum damar is used as raw materials in industries of paint, ink, varnish, coating, cosmetics, etc. In food industry, it acts as a clouding or glazing agent.

DescriptionThe crude product occurs as irregular white to yellow or brownish tears, fragments or powder, sometimes admixed with fragments of bark; refined grades are white yellowish and are free of fragments of ligneous matter; practically odourless, although refined grades may carry an odour of the essential oils used in the refining process.
